BIO
Robert Sarkisian, Founder & President
The heart and soul of the Nantucket Beach Chair Company, Robert manages every aspect
of the family-run business, from design and manufacturing to sales and distribution.
A year-round resident of Nantucket, Robert is active in the community he loves, serving on
the board of the Nantucket Lighthouse School and volunteering as a mentor with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Nantucket as well as with The Boys and Girls Club of Nantucket. He also serves as Chairman of the Deacon and Church Life Board for the (Life Board for the First Congregational Church). Robert holds a B.A. in Business from The Ohio State University.
Sarkis Sarkisian, Co-Founder & Design Engineer
A retired engineer with over 35 years of experience, Sarkis used his design and sourcing expertise to help his son create "the Ultimate Nantucket Beach Chair." When he's not conceiving design refinements or new chair models, he can often be found in the workshop happily assembling chairs for shipment to customers. A Korean Conflict veteran, Sarkis holds an Associate's Degree in Electronics from Northeastern University, and a B.S. in Engineering from Wentworth Institute of Technology.
HISTORY
In the spring of 1993, I arrived from Boston to the magical island of Nantucket and was instantly captivated. What I enjoy most are the incredibly beautiful beaches. On one inspirational day at the beach while sitting on a tattered, rusty chair with a can of soda in the sand and my newspaper in the wind, it hit me "why not design a beach chair for people who, like me, love to spend hours at the beach?" The chair had to have it all it had to be durable, comfortable, practical, and look great as well. With the assistance of my father, a retired engineer, I designed what many consider to be the "ultimate beach chair." Today, I design, manufacture and sell these chairs-having transformed a thought into a marvelous reality. Do not be fooled by cheap imitations.

NANTUCKET
Nantucket Island is located 30 miles at sea from Hyannis on the southern coast of
Cape Cod. The island is 3 1/2 miles north to south and 14 miles east to west. The
population of Nantucket Island is approximately 12,000 year-round and 55,000+
during the summer season.
- Nantucket has over 82 miles of pristine beaches, about two miles of which belongs to
the town. The remaining beaches are owned by private non-profit organizations and
landowners, who graciously open them to the public.
- Nantucket is usually 10% cooler than the mainland in the summer and 10% warmer in the winter because of its proximity to the Gulf Stream.
- Nantucket is an island, a county, and a town. It is the only place in America with the same name for all three.
